BREATH - In a
recent study on smoking, researchers found that it wasn't the cigarette that
relaxed people, it the deep breaths people took while smoking. Deep breaths
will relax you. Take time for several deep breaths before you start speaking
and pause during your speak for deep breaths as well.
EYES FORWARD- Keep
your head up and your eyes toward your audience. This will make you look more
confident in yourself and your message. Staring at your notes, the ceiling, or
the floor will make you appear lost or confused. An audience, especially a
doubting or hostile one, can be like a big dog. They can smell your fear. Even
if you are afraid, EYES FORWARD will keep it from showing.
BIG PRINT -
When preparing your notes, use a big font for your text. Staring down and scan
through your notes will make you look lost. Use a font that is at list 16
points in size, whatever is easily readable for you at a glace. Bold a key
phrase for each so your eyes can quickly jump to the section you
need.
